Animatic

The animatic was very hard to show what we wanted the film opening to look like, there are many reasons because of this could be the images were not detailed enough, more shots where needed and simply we needed to rethink how we where going to shoot the opening. However because of the difficulties that we faced while doing the animatic, it made us re think that story board, also where we had come up with alternative angles and distance, the animatic shows whether or not the current shots are going to be good or whether the alternative’s will be better. The animatic raised another point that as a group we hadn’t really discussed or thought about, which was the length of each shot. We had decided that the opening title sequence was to be 15 seconds, but apart from that the animatic was mainly used for us to work out what length of shots would be good and where without the audience becoming bored with the opening. The animcatic as a gernal was a very good eye opening into what we have to do to get a good end result from our final production, it also taught us what was bad to do and where we need to correct it when we go out to do it.

Typography

As a group we found that it was hard to decide on the type of typography that would be suitable to use in the opening sequence. This is because we wanted a specific type; this was a font that did not stand out massively was quite discrete. Furthermore we discussed on the colour of the font, and the out come after testing it on the computer was that we should use a black font with a white outline. This also allowed us to choose a font, we decided on Sans Serif.

Story Board Evaluation

When creating the storyboard we felt that it was important to produce it so that it was as close as possible to how we would film it. This meant having angles and distances of the shot to be accurately drawn. We found it very hard as a group to agree on the angles that we wanted to use this is because we all had different idea on alternative angles, so we went on the most likely one, but decided when it came to filming that we would try as many as the alternative angles as we needed and then decide on the best one afterwards. This also meant that we would have to do less reshoots, but it also meant that the animantic stage was very difficult to get the right angle and allow people to get an idea of what the 2 minutes could possibly be like.

Opening Sequence Evaluation

We decided that we where going to make the title sequence roughly 15 seconds long, this is because in Film Noir the title sequence's are very simple and are not shown for a long period of time. Due to the genre of Film Noir we decided that the best colour for the typography would be either white or black. Furthermore a simple text like San Serif would be used in the opening due to it not being simple and easy to read. This is the impact that we want to create as we want people to read the titles but not focus their attention on them. Overall we are trying to create a simple title sequence that can be edited in over the first few shots of our protagonist, i think that we have got of to a good start using our research to see what will work and what wouldn't in the opening 2 minutes.

Character Profiles

Falcon Garman
Age: 16
We chose Falcon for this part as she has experience in acting due to her A-level choices, she has a lot of free time and is able to provide her own costume.
Female Protagonist
Elegant clothing - dress, fur coat, fake nails etc.
Main character in opening, dominance shown through various shots of her in a swingy chair, smoking.

Tom Reilly
Age: 16
We chose Tom as our victim as he fits the criteria for the part, and is available for filming when needed.
Victim
Smart clothing - suit
Brief shots of this character - walking down the corridor and entering the room

Sam Patrick
Age: 16
Extra/bodyguard
We chose Sam as an actor in the opening as he's already working in our group, meaning contact and availability will be easier to work out.
Shots of him playing snooker and bringing Tom into the room.

Brogan Wiggins
Age: 16
Extra/bodyguard
Brogan, as he is a member of the group contact will be easy. Shots of him playing snooker and dropping a pool cue.
